We are seeking 2 volunteers to support with the design of a research database.
Purpose of the Project:
Since 1996, The Instituto de Montaña, https://mountain.org/, has focused exclusively on the challenges faced by remote communities in the Andes Mountains and the fragile environments that surround them. They are seeking help to design a database to facilitate future research to identify solutions (indigenous and nature based) to climate change
Tasks to do: Support with the design of a research database specifically referencing and using indigenous knowledge and terms to measure “success”. This database must balance research requirements with considerations on the best way to maximize participation from 150 local communities in the monitoring and evaluation process. For example, can it be linked to business benefits or other benefits to the local people i.e. how can people be encouraged to supply the data?
Creation of the database itself or any subsequent analysis is not part of this specific project.
Additional Requirements:
Language: English. Spanish or indigenous Peru languages would be a bonus but not essential. Note that no programming languages are required
Software/Tools: Word/PowerPoint. Excel (or other database package knowledge) may also be useful
Methodology: Knowledge of database design required to measure the impact of climate change on local ecosystems. Experience of working with ecology/climate/wildlife data. Knowledge of data collection techniques and exploratory data analysis also useful to design an effective database and collection process.
Other: Experience of similar projects and/or working with similar Indigenous communities would be advantageous
Workload / Hours per week: 3 hours per week for approx 6 weeks. Project due date is Feb 28th
